Christmas party invitation wording

Christmas party invitation

Texts for festive invitations

Invitations to a Christmas, St. Nicholas or Advent party are usually designed differently from, say, birthday invitations. They look different, and the text is generally structured differently from an invitation to a private celebration.

Sample texts are further down on this page.

So how does the text of a Christmas party invitation differ, and what should you keep in mind when writing one?

First of all, the basics of every invitation text apply: date, place and starting time must be stated. Because Christmas and St. Nicholas parties are often organised by companies, clubs, kindergartens, schools and other organisations for a large number of people, the salutation is usually general rather than personal.

The right salutation

Common openings for Advent, St. Nicholas or Christmas party invitations: Dear employees · Dear colleagues · Dear members · Dear club members · Dear children, dear parents · Dear pupils.

Where does the party take place?

If the venue is not necessarily known to the guests, say so explicitly – ideally with short directions or a small map.

Who exactly is invited?

Make clear who is invited: only the employees or club members, or their partners as well?

Should something be brought along?

At some pre-Christmas parties gifts are exchanged, a Secret Santa is held or a raffle takes place. If guests should bring something, mention it in the text.

Reply

If you expect a reply or require registration, note it on the invitation.
